Public discussion in Social Media is important for humans if the goal is to find the truth. From what I’ve seen on Instagram and Tiktok, people get into arguments just because they each want to win. They attack each other using hurtful words without really discussing the thing that they should be discussing in the first place.
To solve this problem, the key is to educate people about why, when, and how to deliver an opinion in a good way. Here is something that can be used as an example; many media recently talked about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccination, which was created in a very short time compared to other vaccination processes. People on the negative side argue because they are worried about the vaccine’s kosherness, the ingredients used, and its side effects.
On the other hand, people on the positive side say that it is fine to use the vaccine because it’s urgent. This public discussion that was meant to be positive often turns to fights and arguments from two sides and fails to solve the issue itself. The lack of knowledge about how to make a right and constructive argument makes us use logical fallacies. The most commonly used fallacies are; Ad Hominem (personal attack towards an individual), Straw Man-Fallacy (overgeneralizing), and Circular Argument (repeating the same logic over and over again).
Therefore, with that being said, if I were a leader to the Nation, I would make a system that watches people online, and if they behave they would be rewarded, and if they misbehave they would be punished. To not make the government not broke, the reward will be giving people a week tax-free, and people who misbehave will have to pay double the amount of tax. Kids underage that uses social media won’t get the reward or punishment, instead, their parents will. With this system, I hope people will stop fighting online and are motivated to be more positive, and if I don’t become a leader, I hope someone would consider using this system.
